I’m hoping someone might be able to point me in the right direction regarding a persistent engine noise on my 2012 BMW X5 E70 3.0D (RHD model).
Since purchasing the vehicle, I’ve noticed a continuous ticking noise coming from the engine bay. The best way I can describe it is that it sounds like a steam engine—very rhythmic tick-tick-tick. At first, I assumed it might just be the serpentine belt tensioner, but after a closer inspection, I’m now confident the noise is coming from the lower half of the engine on the driver’s side.
I’ve finally gotten around to looking into it more seriously, and I’ve attached a video link here to better illustrate the sound:
Any insights or suggestions on what this could be (or what to check next) would be greatly appreciated.
